MAHA: A new formula for Anti-wrinkle creams

September 1, 2010

Dr. Henry Cheng

MAHA stands for Matrixyl, Argireline, and Hyaluronic Acid.   Matrixyl®  (palmitoyl pentapeptide-3) is an amino acid that promotes the formation of collagen.  When more collagen is formed, the skin will appear fuller, firmer, and tighter. Matrixyl® had been researched extensively in Spain, and the results from three different studies were presented at the 20th World Congress of Dermatology in 2002.       In one study, researchers showed that Matrixyl®  increased skin thickness 1.5 times faster than the control cream, without any of the inflammatory side effects commonly seen with other preparayiond. (Guttman 2002).

Argireline® has muscle relaxing actions similar to Botox™.  However, unlike Botox, Argireline has no effect on the deep muscles since it is superficially absorbed.  As a result your smile and facial expressions will not be affected.   Also, since it does not totally paralyses your facial muscles it will not produce a metallic shine on your face.   By relaxing the superficial skin muscle fibers, it helps to decrease wrinkles and eliminate fine lines.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan (mucopolysaccharide) that is one of the world’s strongest moisture retainers. By attracting and retaining moisture in the skin, it keeps the skin turgid. Studies had been done to show that a combination of Matrixyl™, Argireline®, and hyaluronic acid (WRINKLE & FROWN LINE CREAM® by Urist Cosmetics) works better and is more moisturizing than vitamin C cream and Retinol creams. Compared to various injections, the cream is much less invasive and it has less potential side effects.  It is also more economical and more convenient.   Most importantly, it does not need to be injected.

If the cream is used in conjunction with electro-magnetic devices like Derma Wand or OxyLift, results can be even more impressive.  The Oxylift forces the cream into the deeper layers of the skin more efficiently and helps regeneration of skin cells with infra-red and micro-massage with fine vibrations.  It also produces ozone that sterilizes the skin.   Use the cream twice a day, and the machine as often as possible after applying the cream.  The machine actually produces a radiant look almost immediately.  If you find the cream irritating to the eyes use their “Eye Cream” around the eyes instead.
